I have found it to easy at times to take for granted all my blessings in life:
- A God who loves me and sent his Son to die for my sins.
- A wife who is encouraging, supporting, and loving.
- My retirement income which provides stable income even through this pandemic.
- My real estate business which enables me to give money back to my community from my commissions.
- A great country.
- Great friends in Toastmasters International and Rotary International
There was a time I was dependent on others for my food and shelter. It was a very humbling period of my life and yet I learned some valuable lessons and as my mother often reminded me, “character building.”
This past week a service opportunity became available through my Pflugerville Rotary Club to be of service to those struggling as a result of job losses or other reasons from the covid-19 pandemic. In only two hours, our small group of Rotary members handed out food to over 350 families in the Pflugerville area. It was hot and very humid, but tremendously rewarding.
Circle of Hope Community Center’s Food Pantry located at 2900 West Pecan Street in Pflugerville is currently open every Monday and Friday from 10am-12noon to provide bread, fresh fruit, produce, frozen meats, dairy products, and non-perishable food to our neighbors in need. They also partner on the first Tuesday of each month with Central Texas Food Bank to provide a Mobile Food Pantry at 1601 West Pecan Street in Pflugerville from 8-10am that provides produce, frozen meat, dairy, and non-perishable food.
Providing food for those in need is one of their core missions, as they partner with local business and the community to serve our fellow neighbor. Their whole team of volunteers is committed to this vital purpose. Currently, the food pantry serves over 1500 families (over 6000 individuals) each month who visit us from Pflugerville, Round Rock, Hutto, Austin, Georgetown, Taylor, Cedar Park, and Leander!
They are a very worthy organization and I look forward to helping again. Maybe next time I will see you there too!
